Metro Manila, Philippines - An estimated 1.7 million people may pass through ports for the Holy Week break beginning this weekend, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said.

The agency said it is anticipating a higher volume of passengers compared to last year’s 1.67 million travelers, in particular at the Batangas Port, the gateway of Luzon to the Visayas and Mindanao.

In a press statement, PPA General Manager Jay Santiago said the summer season may also drive passenger traffic.

“We are prepared for the increased number of passengers this Holy Week 2025, especially as the lenten season coincides with summer. Most of our local travelers are really taking advantage of these long days of day-off and for some tourists it is also a great time to explore our islands via sea travel,” he said.

The PPA advised passengers to book tickets early and allot more hours for sea travel.

It said more personnel will be assigned in key ports to assist passengers.

“With the adequate manpower, appropriate facilities, and back-up systems placed in ports, we can assure the public that we are ready for the influx,” Santiago said.
