PAGASA warns of danger heat index over 16 areas on Good Friday
Metro Manila, Philippines - Sixteen areas across the country may experience a heat index reaching the “danger” category on Friday, April 18, state weather forecasters said.
Synoptic stations in ISU Echague, Isabela and Sangley Point, Cavite City are expected to register a heat index of 43 degrees Celsius during Good Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
The following areas may have a “feels-like temperature” of 42 degrees Celsius:
+ NAIA, Pasay City
+ Aparri, Cagayan
+ NVSU Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya
+ Baler (Radar), Aurora
+ Iba, Zambales
+ Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City
+ San Ildelfonso, Bulacan
+ Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas
+ Tanay, Rizal
+ San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
+ Roxas City, Capiz
+ Dumangas, Iloilo
+ Catarman, Northern Samar
+ Cotabato City
PAGASA categorizes a heat index of 42 degrees Celsius to 51 degrees Celsius as “danger” level.
Health officials said extreme heat may cause fatigue, cramps, and stroke.
They advised the public to drink water regularly, limit outdoor activities, and use or apply sun protection.
The Department of Health activated its “Code White Alert” during Holy Week to prepare public hospitals and health facilities for any emergencies, especially related to traffic accidents and heat-related concerns.
