Bomb sniffing dogs to replace X-Ray machines in MRT, LRT stations — DOTr
Metro Manila, Philippines - The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is set to deploy more service dogs to replace X-ray scanner machines in all Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT 3) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations.
In a statement, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the deployment of more K9 units will be accompanied by additional AI-enabled CCTV cameras and beefed up security presence.
He said the move aims to “greatly reduce passenger lines in the stations without compromising the safety and security of the commuting public.”
As part of the security protocols at rail stations, only passengers without bags are allowed to bypass the X-ray scanners. Those with bags usually form long lines for the X-ray scanner at stations during rush hours.
DOTr said Dizon visited the Philippine Coast Guard K9 Facility in Clark, Pampanga to personally inspect the service dogs to be deployed.
