Metro Manila, Philippines - A portion of Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City will be closed to vehicular traffic to make way for the construction of a Metro Manila Subway station, the Transportation Department said on Friday, Jan. 10.

The road section for the Tandang Sora Station will be closed beginning midnight of Sunday, Jan. 12 and will last until 2028.

A four-lane diversion road will be opened on Jan. 11 to serve as an alternate route.

“Wala po dapat ikabahala 'yung ating mga kababayan kahit medyo matagal itong gagawin dahil meron naman pong ginawang diversion road na of equal lane doon po sa isasara and then may alternate routes naman,” Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Don Artes said in a briefing.

[Translation: There’s no need to worry even if the construction may take long, there will be a diversion road of equal lane, and there are alternate routes.]

The project contractor said traffic on the southbound lane has been closed and diverted since September last year.

EDSA rehabilitation

Meanwhile, the Public Works and Highways Department said the EDSA rehabilitation may begin in March.

Rehabilitation will initially be done on the southbound lane and will be carried out in segments.

The agency said it is crafting a traffic management plan for the project.
