Metro Manila, NewsWatch Plus — A 31-year-old male resident of Quezon City tested positive for mpox last month, bringing the city’s total cases to six, the local government said Wednesday, Nov. 6.

In a statement, the local government said the patient exhibited symptoms on Oct. 18, and his test results came out on Oct. 31.

Mpox causes flu-like symptoms and pus-filled lesions. It is usually mild but could be fatal.

Spas were among the high-risk commercial establishments for mpox, a disease which usually spreads through close, intimate, skin to skin contact.

Local officials said the patient earlier visited F Club, a cafe and fitness center earlier served with a cease and desist order after refusing to cooperate with the city’s contact tracing team.

“It is the sixth time that the F Club has been identified by patients as the possible place of exposure of the confirmed mpox cases,” the statement read.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said the establishment was ordered shut.

Amid a standing cease and desist order, F Cafe was found submitting an application under a new business name. While it was on hold, it already resumed operations.
