UAAP: La Salle survives FEU scare in tight win
Metro Manila, Philippines — Despite Kevin Quiambao having a bad shooting game, the De La Salle University Green Archers still found a way to defeat the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 58-53, in UAAP Season 87 men's basketball on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The reigning league Most Valuable Player shot 2-of-17 from the field to finish the contest with only eight points along with 13 rebounds for the Green Archers.
Mike Phillips did the heavy lifting for La Salle especially in the final frame, when the Tamaraws momentarily grabbed the lead at the crucial stretch. He had 17 points and 15 rebounds in the match.
JC Macalalag added nine points, while Andrei Dungo chipped in eight points for the Green Archers.
La Salle, claiming their eighth straight victory, remained on top of the team standings with an 11-1 win-loss slate.
FEU dropped to sixth place at 4-8.
The Green Archers will face the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in a highly-anticipated showdown on Nov. 10 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
The Tamaraws, meanwhile, tackle the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles on Nov. 9 at the Big Dome.
