Metro Manila, Philippines - Over 1,000 public utility buses were granted special permits to accommodate more passengers during the Holy Week break, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said.

The agency said special permits were given to increase the number of provincial buses during the peak travel period.

These permits are valid from April 11 to April 27.

According to the LTFRB, it has already conducted random inspections in transport terminals to check the validity of the operators’ documents.

In a press statement, LTFRB Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz reminded commuters not to ride unregistered vehicles for their own safety.

“Iwasan din sana natin ang pagsakay sa mga ‘colorum’ o illegal na mga sasakyan dahil ang mga ito ay hindi dumaan sa tamang inspeksyon at walang insurance coverage para sa pasahero,” he said.

[Translation: Let’s refrain from riding illegal vehicles as these did not go through proper inspection and there’s no insurance coverage for passengers.]

The LTFRB also urged passengers to plan their trips early.
