Metro Manila, Philippines - The third nominee of the Ang Bumbero Party-list (ABP) was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Sampaloc, Manila on Monday, April 28.

The Manila Police District said Lenenski Bacud was standing along Sta. Teresita corner P. Guevarra Streets when he was shot several times by gunmen on a motorcycle.

It added that a police officer who was at the scene engaged the assailant in a brief gun fight.

Bacud and the police identified as Jethro Realisa were brought to the University of Santo Tomas Hospital for treatment. But Bacud eventually died.

The MPD said the motive is yet to be determined as investigation is underway.

The ABP mourned the death of its third nominee.

For the party-list, Bacud, who had served as a barangay chairman, is more than just a public servant.

“He was a pillar of integrity, a fierce advocate for the rights of our brave firefighters, and a true embodiment of Filipino kindness and selflessness,” ABP first nominee Pep Goitia said in a social media post.

“His dreams for a better, safer Philippines must live on in each of us,” he added.

ABP condemned all forms of violence, especially as the May midterm elections near.
