Metro Manila, Philippines - The late national artist Nora Aunor, Original Pilipino Music icon Pilita Corrales, multi-awarded actress Gloria Romero, and renowned chef Margarita Fores will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Merit.

The conferment will be held at the Malacañan Palace on May 4, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed on Wednesday, April 23.

The recognition for the four women, who died this year, is for their contributions in the entertainment scene and food industry.

Aunor, dubbed as the “Superstar,” passed away on April 16 at the age of 71 due to breathing difficulties after an operation. She had starred in over 100 films including “Himala,” “Bona,” and “Bulaklak sa City Jail.”

Corrales, hailed as “Asia’s Queen of Songs,” died “peacefully” in her sleep on April 14 at the age of 85. She had recorded more than 135 albums in her 60-year career. Among her hit songs are “A Million Thanks to You” and “Kapantay ay Langit.”

“Queen of Philippine Cinema” Gloria Romero, 91, passed away on Jan. 25. “Tanging Yaman,” “Magnifico,” and “Rainbow’s Sunset” were among the films she starred in in her seven-decade career.

Fores, named as “Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2016,” died on Feb. 11. She was 65. Fores was behind popular restaurants Cibo, Lusso, Grace Park, and Alta.
