Metro Manila, Philippines - Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) to extend train operations by one hour, the Department of Transportation said on Monday, March 17.

The agency said it is still finalizing the effectivity of the order.

In a separate statement, the MRT-3 management said it is awaiting instruction to begin the extended operating hours.

The last trip on weekdays at North Ave. is at 9:30 p.m., and at Taft station at 10:11 p.m.

Dizon took the MRT-3 on Monday and inspected the Taft, Ayala, and Shaw stations.

He earlier said the government and train operators would “find a way” to respond to calls to extend train operating hours.

Meanwhile, Dizon also directed the MRT-3 management to add trains on peak hours.
