A mugshot of Jiang Shan (Bureau of Immigration)

Metro Manila, Philippines - A Chinese national who went viral for kicking a cat to death in Makati has been arrested for overstaying, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.

It identified the person as 32-year-old Jiang Shan.

“Filipinos are known to be very hospitable to our guests. But guests should not come to our houses kicking our pets,” Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado said in a statement.

The BI said its records show Jiang entered the country in May 2023 as a tourist. He has not extended his visa which expired in September of the same year.

Immigration agents apprehended Jiang in his residence in Barangay Palanan, Makati after he failed to show necessary documents. He was brought to the agency’s facility in Taguig City.

“His cruel action led to the BI conducting checks on his records, and now he’s detained to be deported,” said Viado.

Social media users were enraged with the viral video showing Jiang fatally kicking “Ken,” the community cat that got kicked while sleeping in a walkway at Ayala Triangle Gardens.
