Metro Manila, Philippines - Broadway diva and Tony Awards winner Lea Salonga is making a grand comeback to the local musical stage as “The Witch” in the musical fantasy, “Into the Woods.”

Theater Group Asia made the announcement on Friday, Jan. 17, with the show set for August at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati city.

“This is the comeback you’ve all been waiting for. So hold tight to your cows, capes, golden hairs, and glass slippers, the journey into the woods is about to unfold,” it wrote on Instagram.

This marks Salonga’s return to the local stage in six years after she starred in “Sweeney Todd” in 2019.

The award-winning singer first played the role of “The Witch” in 1994.

“Into the Woods” is based on a book by James Lapine with music and lyrics by American composer Stephen Sondheim. The musical intertwines the plots of several fairy tale characters such as “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Rapunzel,” “Jack and The Beanstalk,” and “Cinderella.”
