Metro Manila, Philippines - The family of Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Jenny Alvarado, who met a tragic death in Kuwait, will be on hand to receive her remains after a case of mistaken identity.

"Jenny Alvarado will be arriving tonight so we will be there to receive the remains together with the family," said Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac in an interview with reporters on Thursday, Jan. 16.

Cacdac said the government will continue to extend help to Alvarado's family.

"We continue to provide all forms of assistance to the family as we had already started to do so last weekend when we visited the family last weekend," he said.

The DMW chief said the wrong cadaver, which belonged to a Nepali national, had been sent back to Kuwait. The government is also working with the Nepalese government to investigate the incident and seek clarification of what happened.

"Our labor attaché is in close coordination also with the Nepali embassy, and so with our Philippine embassy in close coordination with the Nepali embassy in Kuwait," said Cacdac.

The DMW said an investigation is ongoing on the shipment of the wrong cadaver.

"I’ve been apprised about the applicable Kuwaiti law, and yes, we are moving ahead with the filing of claims against whoever — hindi ko muna papangalanan pa kung sino [I will not identify any person] — whoever caused the mistake or the error," he explained.

Alvarado died on Jan. 2 due to suffocation. Her supposed remains were repatriated on Jan. 10, only for her family to discover the body was not hers.
