Mikey Williams to suit up for SGA in Dubai tourney
Metro Manila, Philippines — Mikey William returns to hardcourt action after more than a year of hiatus to bolster the Strong Group Athletics (SGA) in the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship on Jan. 24 to Feb. 2.
The two-time PBA champion and Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) joins a loaded squad as it aims to regain the title.
Williams reunited with SGA head coach Charles Tiu as they won titles in the William Jones Cup in 2019 and the 2020 edition of the Dubai tournament together with Mighty Sports.
“I’m excited to be working with him again,” said Tiu in a statement. “I was quite close to him before. We won two championships together, and hopefully, we can win another one.”
The 33-year-old Williams will play alongside local stars Rhenz Abando, Dave Ildefonso, Jason Brickman, Gilas Pilipinas naturalized big man Ange Kouame, reigning NCAA MVP Allen Liwag, Tony Ynot, and Justine Sanchez.
Completing the lineup are former Gilas center Andray Blatche, imports Malachi Richardson and Terry Larrier.
SGA settled for second place after losing to Al-Riyadi in the championship game last year.
