Metro Manila, Philippines - Classes and government work are suspended in three Metro Manila cities on Monday, Jan. 13, due to the “National Rally for Peace” of religious group Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).

On Friday, Malacañang issued a memorandum circular ordering the suspension of work and classes for all levels in Manila and Pasay, citing the anticipated influx of participants traveling to the two cities. The order also covers private schools, the Palace said.

Following the declaration, the Senate, located in Pasay, suspended work on Monday.

“Plenary sessions will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and will be called to order at 3:00 p.m.,” Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. stated in a letter.

Malacañang said it leaves the decision to private offices if they will follow suit.

The Quezon City government also canceled government work and in-person classes from public day care to senior high school on Monday.

It said private schools and offices have the discretion to decide whether to suspend operations.

The INC is holding a rally to support President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s opposition to impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.
