Metro Manila, Philippines — Severe Tropical Storm Nika has affected about 153,000 people as it crosses the country, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

The NDRRMC’s 8 a.m. report has put the number of affected people at 36,788 families. They are from the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol Region, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

Around 17,000 individuals have been displaced, with some 14,000 staying in evacuation centers.

No casualties or damage have been reported so far.

As of posting time, Nika, which reached typhoon category at its peak, is still within the country’s monitoring zone.
