Metro Manila, Philippines — Reigning champions De La Salle University Green Archers will open their second round campaign in UAAP Season 87 men's basketball with redemption on their minds against the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors on Oct. 12 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The Red Warriors stunned the Green Archers, 75-71, in their first round clash last month at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

La Salle is coming off a huge victory over the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons to grab the top spot midway through the tournament.

UE, meanwhile, is the hottest squad in the league right now at 5-2 good for third place in the team standings.

The Red Warriors escaped the Adamson University Soaring Falcons behind Wello Lingolingo's heroic baseline game-winning jumper.

The Soaring Falcons will face the Far Eastern University Tamaraws in the opening match of the second round on Oct. 12.

The Fighting Maroons will collide with the dangerous University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, while the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles and National University Bulldogs square off in the battle between cellar dwellers on Oct. 13 at the Big Dome.

The UAAP made a tweak in the second round schedule, trimming each game day to have either four or five games from six games in the first round. This adjustment will allow for an earlier start time for the men’s games.
