Metro Manila, Philippines — American actress Anne Hathaway confirmed on social media that there will be a “The Princess Diaries 3.”

Hathaway gleefully announced the development on social media in a video on Saturday, Oct. 5 (Manila time) — two decades after the sequel of the beloved film was released.

Snippets of her younger self and English actress and singer Julie Andrews, who portrays Queen Clarisse Renaldi of Genovia, saying “Shut up!” in the first two movies were featured in the video.

“Miracles happen. Back to Genovia,” Hathaway wrote, tagging the social media handles of Disney, her production company Somewhere Pictures, and Adele Lim, who is set to direct the film. “The fairy tale continues.”

Lim is best known for writing the 2018 American romantic-comedy movie “Crazy Rich Asians.”

No other details have been given.

“The Princess Diaries” follows the average teenage Mia Thermopolis (Hathaway), who learns she is a princess and heir to the throne of the European kingdom Genovia.

The coming-of-age film was released in 2001, followed by the romantic-comedy sequel “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” in 2004.
