Metro Manila, Philippines — The University of the East Red Warriors earned their fourth consecutive win after defeating the reeling Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 69-62, on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Precious Momowei powered the streaking Red Warriors with 18 points and 15 rebounds as he played in all 40 minutes.

The Blue Eagles were in control of the match as they built a 10-point advantage at the third frame.

But UE was well-prepared and erupted for 32 points in the final canto to secure the victory.

This is the Red Warriors' first win against Ateneo since 2015, ending a 14-game losing slump.

Wello Lingolingo contributed was the other UE player who scored in double figures with 13 points.

The Red Warriors now occupy solo third place in the team standings with a 4-2 win-loss slate.

Joshua Lazaro and Shawn Tuano paced the Blue Eagles with 14 markers apiece.

UE will end its first-round campaign against the Adamson University Soaring Falcons on Oct. 6, while Ateneo battle fellow cellar dwellers National University Bulldogs on Oct. 5. Both games will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
