Metro Manila, Philippines — Taal Volcano in Batangas erupted for about ten hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Sunday, Oct. 13.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said Taal Volcano had one volcanic tremor on Oct. 12, which lasted for 10 hours and 30 minutes. It emitted 1,256 tons of sulfur dioxide.

“Upon checking the previous data, the 10-hour tremor yesterday is weak and generated by degassing. It is not the longest tremor occurrence,” Phivolcs told NewsWatch Plus in a message.

Plumes, which reached 900 meters high, drifted southwest and west southwest.

Phivolcs said Taal Volcano had an upwelling of hot volcanic fluids in its Main Crater Lake.

The agency also observed a long-term deflation of the volcano’s caldera and a short-term inflation of the Taal Volcano Island’s general northern and southeastern sides.

The public is warned that sudden phreatic explosions, earthquakes, ashfall, or excretion of volcanic gas may happen.

Taal Volcano is under Alert Level 1, which means there is a low-level volcanic unrest.
