Timeless Strokes: Early works of iconic Filipino artists

Timeless Strokes, a special exhibition featuring early works from the personal collections of some of the most respected names in Philippine contemporary art, will open on May 10 at Imahica Art Gallery, Lee Gardens, Wack-Wack, Shaw Blvd., Mandaluyong City. The exhibition will run through May 31.

Spanning 1970 to 2019, Timeless Strokes will be an opportunity to view pieces that have remained part of the artists’ private collections – works they chose to preserve, revisit, and reflect upon across their careers. These artworks capture the more intimate dimensions of their practice, marking moments of exploration, transition, and creative insight.

Featuring works by Hermes Alegre, Pandy Aviado, Remy Boquiren, Benjie Cabangis, Imelda Cajipe Endaya, Antonio Daroy, Fil Delacruz, Anna Fer, Raul Lebajo, Julie Lluch, Tony Pájaro, Cid Reyes, Cesare A.X. Syjuco, Jean Marie Syjuco, Lydia Velasco, Nestor Olarte Vinluan, and Phyllis Zaballero, this exhibition highlights the early creative expressions of artists whose contributions have greatly shaped the landscape of Philippine visual culture.

While many of the names in this exhibit are already familiar, Timeless Strokes offers a fresh lens through which to engage with their work. The pieces on display provide insight into the artists' early ideas, reveal the foundations of their distinctive styles, and offer glimpses into the creative paths that have since evolved over decades. This collection reflects the depth, diversity, and continuity of Filipino artistic expression.

More than just a collection of early works, Timeless Strokes is a celebration of legacy — quiet, personal, and enduring. The exhibition invites visitors to connect not only with the artworks themselves but with the spirit of creativity that continues to shape these artists' journeys.
