MTRCB rejects SMNI motions for reconsideration

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 26) — The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has denied the motions for reconsideration of Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI) to lift the suspension of its two shows.

"The programs were deemed in violation of established guidelines and standards set by Presidential Decree No. 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations governing broadcasting content," the MTRCB said in a statement on Friday.

SMNI's appeal to the MTRCB states that the order of the television regulatory board to suspend its two shows may be "presumed unconstitutional" since it restricts freedom of expression.

"The Board, in exercising its adjudicative authority, found the respondents' assertions unconvincing and lacking persuasiveness," the MTRCB said.

The MTRCB also extended the suspension of SMNI's two shows to 28 days from the original 14 days it imposed on Dec. 13.

The board received complaints against the Oct. 10 episode of "Gikan Sa Masa, Para Sa Masa" where Duterte aired a death threat against ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro.
