Baguio City temperature further drops to 9.8°C

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 27) — Baguio City woke up to a shivering 9.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday, posting another record low temperature amid the northeast monsoon or "amihan" season, the state weather bureau reported.

The cold snap was recorded at around 6:30 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Weather Forecasting said in a Viber message.

It topped the list of lowest temperatures recorded by PAGASA as of Jan. 27, 8 a.m., according to the bureau's website.

The city's public information office earlier said 10.4 degrees Celsius was monitored at 5.a.m.

PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said the country may experience cold winds on Saturday as the northeast monsoon strengthened.

Villamil said Luzon, particularly in the northern and central areas, may experience fair weather conditions, but with chances of light rains for the next three days.

"Asahan pa rin natin 'yong posible tayong makapagtala ng mababang minimum temperatures sa madaling araw dahil inaasahan pa rin natin na may kalakasan ang bugso ng hanging amihan," he said.

PAGASA said the nation's "summer capital," roughly around 250 kilometers north from Manila, posted a 12.2 degrees Celsius on Friday morning.

The country's chilliest temperature, 6.3 degrees Celsius, was observed in Baguio City on Jan. 18, 1961.
