5 dead in Albay residential fire

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 25) — Five people died after being trapped in a residential fire in Daraga, Albay on Tuesday night, the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) confirmed.

According to PRO-5 spokesperson Malu Calubaquib, the blaze started at around 10 p.m. in a house located in Purok 6, Sitio Matagbac, Barangay Kilicao.

The Philippine National Police and the Bureau of Fire Protection in Daraga failed to save the residential house made of light materials.

Among the casualties were three children aged 11 months through nine. Both of their parents, aged 35 years old, also lost their lives in the fire.

Reports said the oldest son survived the tragedy as he was not home when the fire hit.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
