PBA: Grand slam-seeking TNT to be called Tropang 5G in upcoming PH Cup
Metro Manila, Philippines - TNT is renaming its moniker to Tropang 5G from Tropang Giga as it shoots for a title in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup, based on the partial schedule released by the league on Monday.
TNT has just captured its second straight crown this season after defeating Barangay Ginebra in Game 7 of the Commissioner's Cup finals last Friday.
TNT also beat Ginebra in the Governors’ Cup finals earlier this season.
A victory in the Philippine Cup puts TNT in an exclusive club of grand slam winners, which includes the Crispa Redmanizers (1976 and 1983), San Miguel Beermen (1989), Alaska Milkmen (1996), and the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers (2013-14).
A grand slam in the PBA is a rare feat of winning all three conference championships in a single season.
TNT will begin its grand slam quest against the NLEX Road Warriors on April 23 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
