Metro Manila, Philippines — The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses will be without Jonna Perdido in their upcoming UAAP campaign.

The Varsitarian, the school’s official publication, reported Tuesday, Jan. 21, that the outside hitter underwent a successful surgery for a complete left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear on Jan. 13 and will take six to nine months to recover.

Perdido suffered the ACL injury after a bad landing during the Golden Tigresses’ bronze medal game against Far Eastern University at the Shakey’s Super League on Nov. 24.

Perdido had an impressive campaign with UST last season as she helped the España-based squad to a finals appearance before being swept by National University.

The Golden Tigresses will rely on their other hitters including reigning Rookie of the Year Angeline Poyos, Kyla Codora, Renee Peñafiel, and Xyza Gula.

The UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament will begin on Feb. 15 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
