Metro Manila, Philippines - An inmate was killed while two others were injured in a stabbing inside the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa City on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Citing a report, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said the incident happened at the maximum security camp of the New Bilibid Prison at 7:15 a.m.

“The Bucor has opted to withhold the names of those involved in the incident until their families have been duly informed. This approach emphasizes the Bureau's commitment to maintaining dignity and respect for the families of the PDLs (persons deprived of liberty) affected by this unfortunate event,” the agency said in a statement.

It said an investigation is underway.

The BuCor said it ordered superintendents of penal colonies to observe precautionary measures to “ensure that no retaliation will transpire.”
