1 dead after motorcycle crashes with bus in EDSA Busway

Metro Manila, Philippines – A passenger aboard a motorcycle died after the vehicle crashed with a bus along the EDSA Busway on Monday, Aug. 19.

According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the motorcycle went under the bus at EDSA northbound - Trinoma. The incident happened at 7:52 a.m.

The agency’s Road Emergency Group and traffic personnel responded to the accident.

The Philippine National Police, meanwhile, is handling the investigation into the tragedy.

EDSA’s innermost lanes, or the EDSA Busway, are designated for public buses and authorized vehicles only.

The MMDA has reminded motorists to avoid entering the EDSA Busway as it is dangerous.

Based on MMDA’s regulation, those who illegally drive along the EDSA Busway will be fined P5,000 for first offense. Second offense has a fine of P10,000, one-month suspension of driver’s license, and participation in a road safety seminar.

Third offense leads to a P20,000 fine and one-year driver’s license suspension. Fourth offense has a P30,000 fine and a recommendation for driver’s license revocation to the Land Transportation Office.
