Metro Manila, Philippines – Typhoon Marce made landfall in Santa Ana, Cagayan on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 7, and may intensify into a super typhoon, according to a weather update.

Forecasters said the typhoon may hit land again over the northwestern portion of Cagayan tonight.

“Life threatening conditions due to typhoon-force winds, storm surge inundation, and torrential rainfall will be experienced in the Babuyan Islands and the northern portions of mainland Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and Apayao,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said.

The northern portion of Cagayan including Babuyan islands, and the northern portions of Apayao, and Ilocos Norte are under tropical cyclone wind signal number 4.

Six areas are under wind signal number 3, namely Batanes, rest of Cagayan, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte, northern portion of Abra, and the northern portion of Ilocos Sur.

Signal number 2 is hoisted over the following areas:

+ northern and central portions of Isabela

+ rest of Abra

+ Kalinga

+ Mountain Province

+ northern portion of Ifugao

+ rest of Ilocos Sur

+ northern portion of La Union

Meanwhile, the following areas were placed under the lowest storm alert:

+ rest of La Union

+ Pangasinan

+ rest of Ifugao

+ rest of Benguet

+ rest of Isabela

+ Quirino

+ Nueva Vizcaya

+ northern and central portions of Aurora

+ northern portion of Zambales

The typhoon has maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 240 kph.

The weather bureau said “Marce” may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the weather disturbance monitoring zone, on Friday, Nov. 8.
